Bend
h 758 w 631 d 495
Material: birch veneer, 2 component paint
Bend is a chair designed for a Japanese style restaurant concept. An important part of restaurant concept is the Japanese mentality of making food. In their culture food making is almost an art form of its own. Bend is for spaces where you spend a long time and enjoy the company of your friends and eat good food. The design process began with an extensive ergonomic study. First stage of study was to collect measurements from different restaurant chairs which suited the original context. From the information collected ergonomic models were made. Then the information of models were transferred into electronic data. This data was the basis for the design. The Bend-chair is compression moulded out of birch veneer. The limitations of the compression moulding technique were also factors which influenced the final design. The Bend is entirely done by self production. The launch of Bend was in 2004 in the Omia-exhibition at Artek. The curator of this exhibition was Vesa Damski. Articles about this exhibition were featured in the Spaces magazine and the Etelä-Suomen Sanomat newspaper.

Väre
h 60 w 260 d 265
Material: birch & oak veneer
The Väre plate is a project I designed in 2003 for the Päijät-Häme Central Hospital. Väre plate is the hospitals 100 year jubilee gift. The design included also the package design for the product. The Väre is a limited edition of one hundred plates. The plate is available in three different finishes oak, birch and pure white. The series was done by self production. Water and time were the basis for the design of the Väre plate. The timeless and ever changing water is itself a stable element. This appears as ripples of water in the shapes and forms of the plate. Water is also a very important part of the heritage and culture of Päijät-Häme. The timelessness, warmth and flexibility of the chosen materials represent the Päijät-Häme Central Hospital.

Element
h 1900 w 1200 d 600
Material: ceramic tile conrete element
The Element-tiled stove is a design made in 2003. It is designed in cooperation with Kermansavi. Kermansavi is one of the biggest ceramic companies in Finland and their bestselling products are tiled stoves. Their collection consists only of tiled stoves that represent a more traditional style. Their collection however does not have a modern version. The Element is my submission for their design collection. The basic elements of the stove are the front wall, the exterior wood storage and the core. The most dominating feature of the stove is the front wall, which functions as a element that collects the heat from oven and transfers it gradually to the surrounding space. Currently Element is in product development at Kermansavi.

Palaset Radius
h 100 w 92 d 92
Material: 5 mm Perspex
Palaset Radius was my competition entry to the Palaset Scene Competition 2003.

The basic idea in the Palaset Radius series is that the old quadrate form gradually morphs into a circular form. The series includes a paper organizer, a flower vase, a pen and paintbrush stand. The Palaset Radius series received an honourable mention in the competition.
